The IBMS Congress 2022 has finally kicked off after an additional year’s wait. Despite the exhibition part of the event not being open to the public until tomorrow (Tuesday 15th March), delegates still came in their thousands to listen to a number of talks regarding Quality and Education within the service.

Sonic Healthcare UK are proud sponsors of the Education talks at this year’s events and it was standing room only for much of the afternoon session!

Dr Sue Jones and Dr Claire Wright of York St Johns University started proceedings with their talk focusing on the close working relationship between laboratories and universities, concluding it should be a symbiotic partnership between both parties. Dr Andrew Pember followed with his opinions and suggestions of how digital learning platforms should encourage, not put off trainers when delivering their training.

Other talks included Mike Carter, who gave an impassioned lecture on why it is important for laboratory managers to recognise and support the role of trainers, suggesting that training had become the “Cinderella” role behind quality and safety, whilst Vikki Moyse offered hints and tips for laboratory trainers who feel the additional time pressures of the role.

Sonic Healthcare UK staff were on hand throughout the afternoon to discuss training opportunities that are afforded to our staff, whilst also launching the publication of the latest Training & Education report.

Finally, Sonic employee David Rickets was invited to open the round of discussions regarding quality within the laboratory, updating delegates on the ISO 15189 standards and how it will affect laboratories not just in the UK but around the world!

Tuesday will see the opening of the Sonic Healthcare UK stand at the event, whilst further talks sponsored by Sonic UK take place in the largest hall at the ICC – hall 1. Visit this section of the website tomorrow to find out how we get on.
